Plant Overview

Technology

This Oxymat oxygen generating system is an on-site oxygen production facility. The system includes air compressor, refrigeration air dryer, filtration system,air buffer, oxygen generator and oxygen buffer. The system takes air from atmosphere and separates the oxygen from other gases. This system operates on Pressure swing adsorption (PSA) technology for separating air into its components.

The PSA process is based on the principle that under high pressure, gases tend to be attracted selectively to solid surfaces, or "adsorbed". The higher the pressure, the more gas is adsorbed and conversely when the pressure is reduced, the gas is released, or desorbed.Based on this fundamental principle, gas mixtures such as air are separated.

Ambient air is compressed in a screw compressor to a pressure required for efficient adsorption. Air is first treated to remove oil & dust in series of filters and then moisture is removed through cooling in refrigeration dryer unit. An air buffer is provided to avoid fluctuation in air supply to PSA unit.

As compressed air enters PSA unit, Oxygen is allowed to pass through molecular sieve, while nitrogen is retained. Adsorption occurs at high pressure and desorption at lower pressure. Two adsorber columns with molecular sieve (Zeolite) are utilized and these columns work in alternating operation mode through switching valves operated through PLC i.e. when one column delivers oxygen product the other column is regenerated.
