CRYOGENIC TRANSFER LINES

Airgases Projects provide to its customers super insulated vacuum lines (SIVL) sometimes called Vacuum Jacketed Pipe ( VJ pipe) required for transfer of cryogenic liquids with minimum heat in-leak thus minimising transfer loses. These lines are designed with super insulation & high vacuum in annular space resulting in very low heat. The savings made on account of lower transfer losses would always justify investment on these SIVL even for smaller lengths of 12 mts or so.

These lines can be designed up to 40 bar pressure suitable for Liquid oxygen, liquid nitrogen, liquid argon, liquid carbon dioxide and liquefied natural gas. We offer both custom design piping system as well as low cost, pre-engineered standard modular sections. Connections are normally field welded but if requested bayonet connections can be provided. The end transitions are standard butt weld joints for the inner pipe. The insulation system for these end transitions can be perlite filled box or a radiation shield or a joint pre-formed foam. These transfer lines provide thermal performance which far exceeds conventional foam insulation materials and take up a fraction of the space

For the inner pipes in these SIVL, the material of construction used is SS 304 whereas the outer pipe could be either SS304 or SS 321 material. The lines are designed in accordance with ASME B31.3 and cleaned for cryogenic service and oxygen service. The internal bellows are designed to take care of stress arising due to temperature difference from 300 K to 70 K ie temperature differential between the interior and exterior. Special insulating supports are used between inner and outer pipe and specially designed heat breaks are used at the ends to ensure lowest heat inleak. The SIVL lines are helium leak tested using mass spectrometer to suitable standards. The SIVL offered by Airgases Projects offers following special features

  • Simple installation
  • Long-term reliability, providing many years of maintenance-free service. No degradation, drip or leak over the years.
  • High performance - Thermal resistance 10 times better than foam insulated pipe

In addition to SIVL, Airgases projects also offers other associated equipment such as phase separator, flexible vacuum insulated hoses/ connections and cryo-vents etc to build a full cryogenic distribution system.
